The two major factors to design around in vertical buildings is how to get natural light throughout the entire building and how to get users to circulate through the space vertically.  By applying the design principal solid and void those two factors can be solved.  By removing the center of the building and pushing circulation to the sides, an atrium from the roof to the first floor can be added.  This atrium causes natural light to reach to first floor of the building and also gives users views as to what is happening in the above rooms.  Then by putting the vertical circulation paths in the atrium the user can not only see what is happening on other floors, but find easy access to get to the upper floors.  The community requires parking and green spaces and with parking on grade the building itself will have to have the green spaces for the community.  Thus, by removing nonstructural exterior walls on the third and fourth floors the building will be able to have the green spaces for the community.
